Today was all about getting to Quincy. The most important thing was for me to get to the Post Office to bounce my package to Chester.
First thing first, I had to climb 3,000ft over 10miles. I’d opted for an 6am start, so it was dark too. On the climb the trail was kinder than I’d expected so I made really good time. As I neared the top I checked the time, only 9:30, so I easily did ‘10 by 10’ which I wasn’t expecting at all.
Then the trail rolled through very shaded, dark pine forest until it met the ‘Big Creek Road’ (one of the options to hitch to Quincy) but I continued on the trail for another 5miles until it met the ‘Bucks Lake Summit Road’ my preferred option to hitch to Quincy. I’d heard that hitching from here was the most difficult on the whole PCT. I managed to flag down the 2nd car (less than 20 minutes). What a guy! (yes me)
When in town I went for lunch at ‘Morning Thunder’, bacon burger with vanilla milkshake & 2 beers. Then I walked to the famous toy shop for free ice cream where I met my host for the night ‘Pounder’. He hosts hikers in East Quincy, you can have a shower, get your laundry done and sleep under his roof. He just takes donations.
In the evening it was off to ‘Round Table’ for pizza, it’s gonna be an early night though as my ride is coming to pick me up at 6am tomorrow morning
